Internship Eligibility


Interns must be age 16+ to participate. Interns under the age of 16+ may require parental consent to participate in site activities.

Age Requirement


Interns are expected to adhere to the internship site’s policies and complete required tasks. Interns are also expected to have hours signed off by the supervisors of the internship site

Internship Commitment


Participants are expected to complete 4/6 program workshops to be eligible for matching with an internship site. Participants are expected to stay the entire duration.

Program Participation


Interns are expected to have their own transportation to internship sites. Interns can coordinate with peers to carpool to sites.

Dr. Kat McNeely

Kat McNeely-White is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Neurology at University of California, Davis. Her research focuses on recognition memory, retrieval failure, and epilepsy-related memory impairments, using methods such as virtual reality, intracranial electrophysiology (iEEG), and eye-tracking to better understand human memory and cognitive outcomes following epilepsy surgery.


Dr. Cynthia Santillan

Dr. Cynthia Santillan is a Clinical Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in Diagnostic Radiology at UC San Diego, specializing in bowel imaging and perianal MRI. An original developer of LI-RADS, she is a Fellow of the Society of Abdominal Radiology and RSNA Board Member.


Dr. Navinder Sawhney

Dr. Navinder Sawhney is Director of Electrophysiology at Palomar Health Medical Group in Escondido specializing in atrial fibrillation and arrhythmia management. Board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, he has over 25 years of experience and has published extensively on arrhythmia management.


Danny Lasky

Danny Lasky is a PhD candidate for the Pedersen lab and is interested in restoring sleep as a treatment for epilepsy. His research uses chemogenetics to activate a sleep-promoting brain region in epileptic mice, which I anticipate will reduce epileptiform activity and ameliorate cognitive deficits.



Dr. Emily Merchant

Dr. Emily Merchant is a historian of science and technology focused on genetics, eugenics, and the social sciences in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Dr. Merchant explores how genetic and genomic sciences have shaped ideas about human inheritance, intelligence, and reproduction.
